EXERCISE YOUR RIGHT

The first roadblock to financial independence for woman within marriage is the common belief than ‘together money’ is the prescription for a happy and lasting marriage. “My money-your money” arguments have destroyed innumerable marriages. Money and assets are a bone of contention because the two partners may have different priorities. For instance, a wife may want to spend money on something which is her dream but the husband may want to invest it in the stock market. In a marital relationship, usually the husband’s will prevails and the wife is left wringing her hands in later life when her dreams come crashing down. Few couples develop the art of mutual discussion and taking joint decisions. Women in our society have always been seen as ‘ignorant’ in matters of building wealth and are usually encouraged playing second fiddle even if they are educated and interested.
